The first time I got involved in a missions trip was when I was still in college. I remember being in an immersion program with now missionary to Campodia Jojo Miraflor and Bro. Carlo and living with the Badjao migrants under Pasto Lut Garcia’s ministry in an area in Batangas. In January of 1999, I started volunteering for Breaking Point missions activities but mostly held within neighboring cities of Antipolo City (Marikina City and Pasig City). I volunteered every year for the next three years and got involved in coordinating with school administrators for setting program schedules, coordinating with churches for the training of volunteers and the training itself. A few months before the third missions trip which was held in Baguio City, I made an advance trip to coordinate with churches and conducted volunteer trainings for Pines City Baptist Church and Grace Baptist Church. So, as the missions trip to Baguio pushed through, we had to make sure we brought every thing we needed – from credit cards to personal belongings and program costumes and training materials. It was that same missions trip when the reigns of the Breaking Point Foundation were officially handed over to me in partnership with the ministry of SBC. This then gave birth to more outreach and missions activities in the Philippines. Right now, plans for a missions trip on August in Palawan are being laid down and we are excited to bring the gospel to high school students in that province. Please start praying that God would work in the hearts of the youth of Palawan and make them ready for the gospel.

The concept of debt consolidation is new to some people especially to those new to having credit cards. It is not necessarily the most recommended way to get out of debt but it is an option and can help those trapped in debt get out by assisting them in making a debt management plan. Getting a debt consolidator can help reduce interest rates on one’s existing debt, reduce collection calls from numerous companies that contact you regarding existing loans, it can also lower monthly payments, stop the fees being charged because of being unable to pay on time and many other benefits. But bill consolidation is just one way to help someone get out of the trap of being deep in debt. There are ways to avoid being trapped in debt.

Getting an instant payday loan is usually the first reaction of many people with regular jobs who encounter sudden needs, emergencies or sudden financial strains. It is usually the easier thing to do when a family member suddenly needs to be taken to the hospital and funds are really low or when the baby needs milk and the next payday is still a few days away. There are, in fact, online services that help people obtain secure, online cash advances and payday loans where signing up and qualifying for one can be made quick and easy and electronically deposit the payday loan amount directly into people’s checking or savings account, offering flexible options for payment and discreet service. This week, during talks with our senior pastor, tentative dates for the Breaking Point Foundation missions trip to Palawan have been set – August 11-13, 2008. So far, communications are still being made with the trip’s church sponsors so targeted schools and churches have not been named yet. We plan to bring a missions team of not more than 20, composed of a combination of new (but trained) and veteran volunteers, drama team members and martial arts team, all doubling as classroom facilitators.

King Solomon, the wisest man who ever lived, said during his time that “the borrower is servant to the lender†(Proverbs 22:7a). Getting a loan can really be a burden especially when you are not keeping track of the many loans you have and not being responsible for paying back the credit card purchases you make. Getting a credit card is not necessarily wrong, but one has to first learn to manage his or her finances properly to earn the privilege of getting a credit card. The problem is, many times, people who get a credit card enjoy the benefit of being able to buy something even when he or she does not have money but do not feel the urgency to pay it back immediately. That is an irresponsible way of using a credit card. And most of the time those who practice this get addicted to doing it, ending up with more debts to settle.
If you are looking for a way out of debt the first thing you need to do is to tithe. Recognize that everything you have comes from Him and you return ten percent of what is really His. Next is start making a budget and include paying of your debt into it. If the budget is really tight and there are too many bill collectors to talk too, you may even consider, maybe as a last resort, just to help you manage everything into a single responsibility, getting a debt consolidation loan with the deal that you include the regular payments into your budget. The most important thing is you plan paying back the debts you have.
