Humility is a characteristic that we must have if we want to be more like Christ. As Christ, the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords, came to earth not in a crib bedding but in an itchy manger located in a stinky cave where animals dwelt, we must also be willing to associate ourselves with people of lower estate than us, even embracing the life they have as Christ embraced our humanity without losing His deity. But how do we practically do that? When we live a life with a sense of mission and purpose, it will let us focus on the task ahead of us and with a passion for the people we are reaching. We must be willing to accept everyone around us without approving of their sin, affirm them and even assist them in any way we can – then we can stand out as a light in this dark world.

“Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus:
6 Who, being in very nature God,
did not consider equality with God something to be grasped,
7 but made Himself nothing,
taking the very nature of a servant,
being made in human likeness.
8 And being found in appearance as a man,
He humbled himself
and became obedient to death-
even death on a cross!”
