As opposed to the religious culture in the Philippines, we don’t need to light candles on Votive candle holders to make our prayers more effective and powerful. It is not a matter of the externals, like crawling to the altar, praying face down on the floor or other acts but it is a matter of what is in our hearts. This is not to say that it is wrong to do such acts, but just to qualify the acts by first making sure that our hearts are right with God – having the right motive, asking according to God’s will and coming before Him blameless.
