Verse of the Day: 10/29/08

Posted on October 29th, 2008 by Pastor Jeff in Daily Living

John 15:5 “I am the vine; you are the branches. If a man remains in me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.”

This, I believe, is the best illustration of how every believer need Christ in their lives to grow and “bear fruit”. These fruits may pertain to souls won for Christ or even the victories that a believer achieves as a temptation is overcome or a bad habit is changed.

The bottom line is complete dependence upon Christ. For without Him we can do nothing. What are you trying to change in your own life with your own strength. Surrender it to God and allow Him to change this for you today.

Our Direct Communication

Posted on October 28th, 2008 by Pastor Jeff in Prayer

Prayer is our direct communication to God and unlike the world’s communication systems like the cellular phone which gets a busy signal or has low signal that it would sometimes need a cell phone repeater, our communication with God is always open. Even when God doesn’t hear us when our sins separate us from Him, He immediately responds once we repent and ask forgiveness.

Verse of the Day: 10/27/08

When concerns, problems or trials come our way we can choose to do two things: we can worry or we can pray. The easier thing to do is to worry, but worrying doesn’t change the situation or what is inside us. Praying, however, has the potential to change the situation and/or change what is in our hearts even if nothing changes externally. Why don’t you try that out today?

Philippians 4:6-7 “Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. 7 And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”

Regular Mission Trips

Posted on October 24th, 2008 by Pastor Jeff in Ministry, Missions, Uncategorized

On Tuesday I and some of my students who came from a mission trip to Cambodia will be coming back to work holding Bible college classes. Every now and then, our mother church schedules a mission trip to expose many of its members to missions, both local and international. The church’s members participate as givers or senders and as short term missionaries and is hoping that these trips would bear fruit not only in the places that are saturated with God’s word but also in the church – that those called would surrender to become missionaries.

Proverbs 23:7 “For as he thinks in his heart, so is he.”

What we meditate on is so important because it is what we become. Chuck Swindoll wrote as a title in one of the chapters of his book, “It all starts in your mind.” And it does. That’s why we are encouraged to memorize God’s Word because through it we can readily fill our minds with things of God instead of other stuff that may be considered worthless, however good they may seem. What do you meditate on? Or better yet, what have you memorized lately that you can meditate on?
