On Technology and Spiritual Matters

I have encountered people who work with technology to enhance spiritual lives. I have seen pastors who preach on the pulpit using a pocket PC or even a Sony Vaio for their notes. There are young professionals who report to their jobs and do their devotions before they start their work and they do them using their office PC with a bible software installed. There are ministries who use large LCD screens to project notes for the congregation or song lyrics.

There are conservatives who oppose the use of these gadgets in spiritual matters and say that it is mixing the secular with the spiritual. I don’t blame them for how they view this matter. We should be careful in using these things to not depend on videos and other multimedia instead of the power of the Holy Spirit and God’s word to bring conviction or lead others to worship God. But let us be open to taking what is beneficial for the ministry and the purpose which is God’s great commission. Because if technology can help reach more people for Christ then it is an asset rather than a liability or a threat to the ministry.
