Passage of the Day: 11/12/08

Posted on November 12th, 2008 by Pastor Jeff in Daily Living, Spiritual Disciplines

2 Timothy 3:16-17 “All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, 17 so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.”

One of the 3:16s that we believers in Christ need to keep in handy, aside from John 3:16 is 2 Timothy 3:16. This passage was part of the second letter written by apostle Paul to a young pastor named Timothy and he reminds Timothy that God’s word is literally inspired by the Holy Spirit, therefore it has so much use for believers.

He mentions four things for which God’s word is useful:

1) Teaching. God’s word is inspired that it can be used to instruct us.

2) Rebuking. It is also inspired that it can identify things that are wrong in our lives.

3) Correcting. Not only does it identify the wrong things in our lives, it also shows us the right way to live.

4) Training in Righteousness. The word of God is inspired that it can train us believers to learn how to be more like God in choosing what is right.

All these four can be accomplished or is possible in believers and the purpose is for us to be ready and useful to our Master.

Verse of the Day: 11/11/08

Genesis 2:19-24 “Now the Lord God had formed out of the ground all the beasts of the field and all the birds of the air. He brought them to the man to see what he would name them; and whatever the man called each living creature, that was its name. 20 So the man gave names to all the livestock, the birds of the air and all the beasts of the field. But for Adam no suitable helper was found. 21 So the Lord God caused the man to fall into a deep sleep; and while he was sleeping, he took one of the man’s ribs and closed up the place with flesh. 22 Then the Lord God made a woman from the rib he had taken out of the man, and he brought her to the man. 23 The man said, “This is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called ‘woman,’ for she was taken out of man.” 24 For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and they will become one flesh.”

This is a classic passage, talking about where the family began. Marriage, based on this passage was instituted by God. It wasn’t the government’s idea nor was man’s idea, it was God’s. And since it was God’s idea we should have high regards for it. It shouldn’t be taken lightly, it shouldn’t be used to escape mistakes made and it should not be twisted or redefined to satisfy one’s lifestyle.

Ministering With Technology

Our present technology makes many things possible for us. We now have what we call downloadable audio books that those who are visually impaired can use with some assistance. In videos, there are subtitles that can be read as a hearing impaired person watches a movie. Many Christian ministries are coming out to utilize this technology to reach out and minister to those who are physically challenged.
