I Choose to Stand For My Generation!

Posted on April 27th, 2009 by Pastor Jeff in worship

It has been great worshiping with other believers at camp and exposing new believers to worship. With a crowd of more than 700 young people, it was amazing to hear them singing songs of commitment to God. One of the songs sang at camp was Pick It Up by Planetshakers. Below are th lyrics of the song.

Pick It Up
Planetshakers

Verse 1
I was blind but now I see
Love has got a hold on me
Now I sing cause I am free

Pre-Chorus
So I’m laying down my life
And I’m taking up my cross

Chorus
I’m taking up my cross
Laying down my life
All for the glory of Your name

I’m living my whole life
All for You Jesus
Taking up my cross everyday

Verse 2
I was lost
Now I’m found
Put my feet on solid ground
Now I sing cause I am free

Bridge
I choose to stand for my generation

Returning from Camp: Part 1

Posted on April 25th, 2009 by Pastor Jeff in Camp Update

It was a wonderful camp week as the Call of Duty: World at War (Ephesians 6:10-20) had 763 participants. Campers from different parts of National Capital Region enjoyed a cool-weathered youth camp as it rained daily in Capas, Tarlac. They also enjoyed live band, praise and worship music which were played by different music team representatives from ministries who participated. And, although initially, many would have thought that food would be no so good that no one would need an appetite suppressant, it turned out that food was so great and fresh as the kitchen crew, whose volunteers were also from the different ministries involved in the camp, prepared the food on time and not too early.

Verse of the Day: 04/19/2009

Posted on April 19th, 2009 by Pastor Jeff in Daily Living, Spiritual Disciplines

Matthew 5:16 16“In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.”

As believers, we are commanded to let our lights shine before men, not just like light bulbs, but like spot lights in this dark world. The goal is to point people to Christ.

Many times, while driving home during Saturday or Friday nights, I would see spotlights pointing to the sky and roaming the clouds above. Many establishments that open for the weekend utilize these spotlights to make people curious and point them to their location.

Our light as believers should be this clear to the people around us. We must cause positive curiosity among the people around us and point them to Christ in us.

Leadership Thought for the Day: Double-loop Learning

Posted on April 14th, 2009 by Pastor Jeff in Leadership

As leaders or influencers, we have to address issues of the heart and the soul that determine how and why problematic behavior is being practiced. Jesus modeled this essential discipline of effective leadership. Peter had failed Jesus miserably. Overwhelmed by intense pressure, he had abandoned his mentor and friend in the moment Jesus most needed his friendship and support. How humiliated and degraded Peter must have felt. But Jesus reconstructed Peter.

The single loop tends to be the easy one. We can teach a person to modify his or her angry outbursts. But the second loop forces the person to deal with the anger that generates the outburst. The second loop is essential to solving the problem but more difficult to address.

As leaders who are committed to God’s best for our followers, we must learn well the lesson of double-loop learning. First time around the loop – behavior. Second time around the loop – values and attitudes that drive behavior. Great leaders don’t stop after one lap around the loop.

Thoughts On Holy Week 2009: Part 2

Posted on April 8th, 2009 by Pastor Jeff in Prayer, worship

We were not on sale when Jesus Christ redeemed us! In fact, Jesus paid a very high price for us. 1 Peter 1: 18-19 says, “For you know that it was not with perishable things such as silver or gold that you were redeemed from the empty way of life handed down to you from your forefathers, 19but with the precious blood of Christ, a lamb without blemish or defect.” Yes! His blood was precious and He shed it for us. Let us meditate on this truth this Holy Week.
