Helping Those Who Want to Change

Posted on September 16th, 2010 by Pastor Jeff in Ministry

In the next posts, I will be sharing the steps to recovery. These steps are helpful for those who are recovering from addiction, gambling, vices, bad habits, etc. Those who want to change try to find a cure for their problem, similar to a teenager trying to look for creams for acne weeks before the prom. I hope that the steps that will be shared and briefly explained will be able to help those who want to change for the better.

Last Sunday, I talked about spiritual fitness and introduced the topic with Coach Jim Saret’s 4-minute workout. This workout helps one lose 400 calories in 4 minutes. Regular exercise has a different effect compared to diet pills and it is parallel to spiritual fitness. One does not gain spiritual muscles through a one time event or spiritual activity. It has to be regular because it’s a process. Do not take shortcuts but discipline yourself to be spiritually fit.

I’m finishing up packing for in a while but there are other things I need to do first. I am excited for our trip to Kuala Lumpur, to go around the city and see Petronas Towers, other nice metal buildings and of course the specks of historical architectural structures around the city. This will be my second time to go out of the country and I am really excited!

Having a good lawyer before a judge is essential in winning a case. Like personal injury lawyers Tucson has, we believers have been represented before God and have won against Satan’s accusations. We were represented by Christ who died to pay for our sins. His death, burial and resurrection gave Him victory over sin’s sting, which is death, so now, we can also live with Him as Christ has justified us before the Holy and righteous Judge.

Passage of the Day:09/04/2010

“Except ye see signs and wonders, ye will not believe.”
John 4:48

A craving after marvels was a symptom of the sickly state of men’s minds in our Lord’s day; they refused solid nourishment, and pined after mere wonder. The gospel which they so greatly needed they would not have; the miracles which Jesus did not always choose to give they eagerly demanded. Many nowadays must see signs and wonders, or they will not believe. Some have said in their heart, “I must feel deep horror of soul, or I never will believe in Jesus.” But what if you never should feel it, as probably you never may? Will you go to hell out of spite against God, because He will not treat you like another? One has said to himself, “If I had a dream, or if I could feel a sudden shock of I know not what, then I would believe.” Thus you undeserving mortals dream that my Lord is to be dictated to by you! You are beggars at His gate, asking for mercy, and you must needs draw up rules and regulations as to how He shall give that mercy. Think you that He will submit to this? My Master is of a generous spirit, but He has a right royal heart, He spurns all dictation, and maintains His sovereignty of action. Why, dear reader, if such be your case, do you crave for signs and wonders? Is not the gospel its own sign and wonder? Is not this a miracle of miracles, that “God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him might not perish”? Surely that precious word, “Whosoever will, let him come and take the water of life freely” and that solemn promise, “Him that cometh unto Me, I will in no wise cast out,” are better than signs and wonders! A truthful Saviour ought to be believed. He is truth itself. Why will you ask proof of the veracity of One who cannot lie? The devils themselves declared Him to be the Son of God; will you mistrust Him?
