Verse of the Day: 04/19/2009

Posted on April 19th, 2009 by Pastor Jeff in Daily Living, Spiritual Disciplines

Matthew 5:16 16“In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.”

As believers, we are commanded to let our lights shine before men, not just like light bulbs, but like spot lights in this dark world. The goal is to point people to Christ.

Many times, while driving home during Saturday or Friday nights, I would see spotlights pointing to the sky and roaming the clouds above. Many establishments that open for the weekend utilize these spotlights to make people curious and point them to their location.

Our light as believers should be this clear to the people around us. We must cause positive curiosity among the people around us and point them to Christ in us.

Meditating on Scripture is made easier when we memorize verses. These verses become embedded in the system memory of our minds and become available any time as long as we know how to access the. Have You Tried the John Experiment?

Posted on January 30th, 2009 by Pastor Jeff in Spiritual Disciplines

This week I started doing The John Experiment and started reading through John chapter 1. As I read through the first chapter of John this week, I was amazed how clear this chapter communicates the deity of Christ. It is undeniable that Christ is God, even as many cults try to use certain passages from this chapter to deny Christ’s deity. Reading the whole chapter clearly communicates the revelation of Christ as God. What I particularly liked were the titles used for Jesus, specifically, the True Light, the Word and the Lamb of God. I encourage you to take the John Experiment challenge. Visit thejohnexperiment.com.

Passage of the Day: 12/14/08

Posted on December 14th, 2008 by Pastor Jeff in Spiritual Disciplines, worship

Luke 1:46-47 “And Mary said: ‘My soul glorifies the Lord 47and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior…’”

From this first two verses of what is more popularly known as ‘The Magnificat’, Mary exemplifies what true worship is. She shows that true worship is internal. By using synonymous terms such as ‘soul’ and ‘spirit’ she expresses what is in the totality of her inner being.

True worship is not about the religious practices and the other external things. It is about what happens in our minds, hearts and will as we express our love to God. So let us not be carreless and superficial as we go about the things that a Christian must do. Remember, God sees what is in our hearts and that’s what matters the most.

Practice Cleansing

Cleansing is important for the body and the soul. For your soul, you need regular confession and pardon. For your body you need detoxification. Pomegranate trees can be helpful in your detoxification as its fruit’s juice is filled with antioxidants. As much as you need regular soul cleansing, you also need body cleansing. You should practice both for a healthy and balanced life.

Psalm 19:14 “Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in Thy sight, O Lord, my strength, and my redeemer.”

This is a very beautiful prayer and commitment. It shows a believer’s intention to please his Master. It humbly expresses the desire to do the will of God and that’s what I love about it. But more than that, it also expresses will to do what’s right in word and in thought.

This should be every believer’s desire, will and intention since we all have been saved by our Redeemer. It is our way of showing our lifelong gratitude for what He has done for us.

Memorize For Battle

Posted on December 1st, 2008 by Pastor Jeff in Spiritual Disciplines, Uncategorized

Memorizing verses or passages of the Holy Scriptures is one of the important steps that believers must take to grow spiritually. It is like saving up truth after truth in our brain’s flash memory and the passages are made available when the Holy Spirit prompts us during times of distress, sorrow or discouragement. But if we don’t memorize, then there is no passage or verse to recall – there will be no sword that we can pull out during times of battle when the enemy throws his fiery darts toward us. So, please start memorizing Scripture today.
