Spending or Investing Money Wisely

Posted on August 18th, 2009 by Pastor Jeff in Stewardship

Getting a house of your own is probably a dream that young professionals and many young people have. But with land not very much available in the city, people resort to other alternatives. One of the choices they make for homes is the condominium. Others buy condos for investment and business purposes. They offer their property for rent like the Myrtle beach vacation rentals. This is also a wise way to handle money wisely, especially if you have a lot of extra money to use for an investment.

Five Principles of Handling Finances and Stewardship

Posted on July 22nd, 2009 by Pastor Jeff in Stewardship

Having read some books on handling finances and stewardship, I have learned five principles. The first one is the principle of accounting which basically teaches that I need to make a list of what I own, owe, earn and what I spend.

The second is the principle of budgeting which is summed up as telling your money where to go. The third principle is the principle of saving and this is about increasing your money little by little or through popular investments such as life or home insurance, pension plans, and the like. The fourth is the principle of contentment and the last is the principle of generosity.

These principles are all based and consistent with the Word of God. Actually this is a summary of one of the topics we teach in our personal development seminars.

Passage of the Day: 11/15/08

Ephesians 4:11-13 “It was he who gave some to be apostles, some to be prophets, some to be evangelists, and some to be pastors and teachers, 12 to prepare God’s people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up…”

The primary role of church leaders is to equip those under their influence. Church members are the workers, the doers of the works of service as mentioned in the passage above. This is likened to the roles of a coach and his players. The coach can initially sets an example and lead his team by teaching them and showing them how the game is played but eventually expects the players to perform and do the winning for the whole team.

As a leader, how are you encouraging those you are influencing? Are you being a model and are you teaching them? Are you providing training for them to grow in their skills? As a church member, are you participating in winning for your team? Or are you just watching on the sidelines after all the training you’ve received? Just some thoughts to ponder.

Cutting Down On Expenses

In the midst of the global financial crisis, believers have the assurance that their need will be met because of our loving Father who is known as Jehovah Jireh, which means God the Provider. And the wisdom that the Bible teaches about handling finances and wealth is helpful not only during times like these, but even during times of plenty. Thinking of ways to cut down on expenses is a wise and a Biblical thing to do.

My family and I have thought of ways to cut our spending like eating more at home instead of going out to eat. I myself, even with a car to drive, still take public transportation just to save on gas expenses.

There is a web site that has product offerings that can help meet these goals. ZenniOptical.com sells eyeglasses that are very affordable. Prices start at $8 and their products are of good quality. They have a wide variety frames to choose from with different types of lenses available. The reason they are able to provide this low price is because they sell their own manufactured frames directly to customers, cutting their cost for advertising and middlemen’s commissions. If we had someone in our family using glasses this product offering will surely help us cut back on our spending.

It is normal to see pets with their owners/ masters walking them around malls nowadays. That is why stores specializing on dog and cat supplies and veterinary pet care services are rising all around. This is one of the many business opportunities that are currently booming and those interested in investing in a business, if they have related expertise in this specialization, may consider venturing into this arena. But do remember, whatever business venture or work you are in, it is God who give us the ability to produce wealth. (Deuteronomy 8:18)
